Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) is a way of working where an engineer embeds in the client’s team and takes the problem from discovery through implementation to adoption. In the building industry that means joining a design firm or a contractor’s design department 1–3 days a week, working next to the people who handle the drawings and BIM models.

Requirements from one vendor, development from another, and adoption left to the client: FDE removes that split. MTD is a software engineer who knows design work and BIM practice, so we start working with you before the requirements are settled.

Building something new is not the goal. If a combination of Revit, Excel, and Power BI solves it, that is what we propose. We build only where the software you already have cannot reach.

What we do

We embed in a design team for a period, watch how the work is actually done, and put the problems into words. To solve them we propose what fits at the time: adopting existing tools, building new ones, or combining both. We start small, grow what works into production tools and procedures, and support the team until it runs them on its own. Requirements, development, and adoption are not split across separate vendors.

Frequently asked questions

How is FDE different from BIM consulting or contract development?
Consulting tends to end at the proposal, and contract development tends to start from a requirements document. FDE covers everything from finding the problem inside the team through implementation to the team running it on its own, with no handover in between.
How often and for how long are you in our office?
1–3 days a week as a baseline, adjusted to the project and season, and combinable with remote work. Engagements usually start at around three months, with continuation decided on results.
Can we talk before the requirements are settled?
Yes. Joining before they are settled makes it easier to separate what existing tools can handle from what needs building. Just tell us what is getting in the way today.
Can you join as a BIM operator or BIM manager?
Yes. We take on modelling, drawing production, or BIM management, and sort out the problems that surface in that work in parallel.
